Pretoriuskop Rest Camp - Kruger National Park

The adjacent kopje (hill) that is home to the grave of Voortrekker Willem Pretorius, a participant in Carl Trichardt's 1848 expedition to Delagoa Bay, is the source of the name Pretoriuskop Camp in Kruger National Park.

The camp is among the oldest in the Kruger National Park, and accommodations vary from modest bungalows with a basin and two beds to fully furnished guesthouses. The Pierre Joubert and Doherty Bryant guesthouses at Pretoriuskop Rest Camp in Kruger National Park offer luxurious accommodations.

Pretoriuskop Rest Camp - Information

Pretoriuskop Rest Camp in Kruger National Park has historical significance because, in an attempt to develop trade, Voortrekkers explored a number of potential routes through the Lowveld to reach the Portuguese harbours in Mozambique between 1836 and 1860. A group of Dutch-speaking colonists known as the Voortrekkers departed the Cape Colony in the 1830s in order to realise their dream of political autonomy in the interior, away from the rule and influence of the British. One of these trade routes passes via Pretoriuskop Camp in Kruger National Park, which gets its name from the neighbouring hill where Pretorius is buried.
The lodging at the Pretoriuskop Rest Camp in the Kruger National Park is arranged in three circles around a small administrative building, with ample space between verdant lawns. The café, restaurant, and reception area are all located in the administrative block. There are additional accommodations for disabled guests at the camp. Huts Round rooms with three beds, shared bathroom facilities and kitchen. bungalows Round two, four, or six-bed rooms. furnished with air conditioning, ablutions (most with showers, some with baths), hotplates and sinks in some, sinks alone in others. Family Cottages Four, six, or one, four beds with one double bed each Doherty Bryant Guest House has nine beds, with one double bed and one single bed in each room. The 16-bed Pierre Joubert hotel has two single beds and two bench beds in each room. Campsites There are 54 tent or caravan sites at Pretoriuskop Camp, some of which have power outlets. Cooking facilities and ablution stations are shared. Electric hotplates, boiling water, and dishwashing facilities are all available for use throughout the culinary process. Per site, a maximum of 6 people are permitted. For your accommodation and lodging in Kruger Park, there are tent or caravan sites available, with or without power outlets, communal restrooms, and cooking amenities. Each site may accommodate up to 6 people.
Pretoriuskop is a unique location for a safari in the Kruger National Park because of the possibility of viewing small herds of Sable, Eland, and Lichtenstein's Hartebeest. On the loop roads that encircle the camp, one can spot black and white rhinos, buffalo, and elephants. Look for Rock Hyrax, Klipspringer, Oribi, and Red Duiker among the many rocky outcrops (the latter two are rather unique to this area of the Kruger National Park, while being hard to locate). Hippopotamus can be found at the Mestel Dam, and Reedbuck can be found at the Shitlhave Dam. Regarding carnivores, it is common to find wild dogs and, in spite of the thick grass, cheetahs in the region. Along your proposed tour in the Kruger National Park, keep an eye out for leopards and spotted hyenas.
If you would want to go on a game drive or walk during your safari in the Kruger National Park, knowledgeable guides will do so. A traditional bush braai (barbecue) is sometimes held to cap off night game drives. The region is home to numerous wilderness routes, like the Napi Trail, which winds through the scenic forest bushveld. For those who enjoy seeing rhinos up close on a safari in the Kruger National Park, game viewing is particularly good. The Pretoriuskop Camp area is home to a large number of rhinos that have been released, adding to the approximately 11,500 white rhino population there.
