With all of our overland safaris, after breakfast on the last day, you either leave the
Kruger National Park or the Sabi Sand Reserve to enjoy South
Africa's famous 'Panoramic Route' in the Northern Drakensberg
Mountain range.
The Northern Drakensberg Mountains are perhaps
the most spectacular of all the scenic wonders of Africa. The
Blyde River Canyon towers above the canyon floor in sheer vertical
cliffs of orange ochre soaring to 700 meters above the Blyde River.
Beneath the cliffs the mountains appear to be swathed in bolts
of luscious green cloth cascading into the dark blue waters of
the gorge below.
En-route we stop and spend a few minutes to
go view the Blyde River Canyon, the Three Rondavels, Lisbon Falls
and Pilgrims Rest.
Pilgrims Rest is an old gold mining town. It's
now a national monument and will be your lunch stop for the day.
At each of the scenic stops you have the opportunity to finish
off your film and to barter for locally crafted curios.
Note
It's a 4 hour drive back to Johannesburg from Pilgrims Rest. You will arrive back in Jo'burg at approx 6.00pm with drop off at the airport, Outlook Lodge or at your hotel.
As the Northen Drakensberg Mountains are close to the Kruger National Park and the Sabi Sand Reserve; we include driving through this region on the way back to Jo'burg or Pretoria.
The Fly-In safari option does not include the Panoramic Route on the last day. Instead you enjoy extended game viewing applicable to your safari package.
